Grand Island sits along the Platte River in the east central part of Nebraska. The Union Pacific and Chicago Burlington & Quincy crossed at grade on the city's east side, and for many years this proved to be a busy intersection for train traffic. In 1995, a new Burlington Northern overpass over the Union Pacific main line was completed. Today, BNSF operates the ex-CB&Q line, while the U.P. continues its dominance on its Overland Route. In this program, we begin by showing operations in Grand Island in 1979, when a tower controlled the diamond. We then capture the action in May 2010. Union Pacific keeps its double track main line busy with all types of freight, while the BNSF hauls mostly Powder River Basin coal trains on its route from Alliance to Lincoln, Nebraska. You will enjoy the exciting new locomotive power as it makes its way along this historic hotspot. There’s never a dull moment, as several trains cross over and under each other simultaneously. Short line Nebraska Central is also captured as it operates the former U.P. branch line to Ord. List price $29.95, 120 minutes. SKU: GIBR. Posted 7-2-10.

SPECIAL FATHER'S DAY SALE! Sleek and stylish EMD E-8s and E-9s were the backbone of the Union Pacific's fleet throughout the 1950s and '60s. With the restoration of E-9 locomotives 951, 949, and 963B in 1993, Union Pacific revived the image of its famous streamlined passenger trains. Pentrex takes you aboard this retro trainset for two of its most notable excursions. The two shows that are included on this combo DVD are: UNION PACIFIC ELEGANT E9'S. When UP's elegantly restored A-B-A set of E-9s pulled its first excursion train from Denver to Laramie, Pentrex was there to cover the event in full. The locomotives look and sound great as they roar past our cameras. You'll also go inside locomotive 951 to see the new cab control stand and V-16 prime mover. FEATHER RIVER CANYON E9'Ss. The 1994 Feather River Special was powered by UP's sleek A-B-A set of E-9s. Pentrex followed the train both days of its run through this famous canyon. You'll see the train at your favorite Feather River hot spots. As a special treat, the camera takes you inside E-Unit 951 for a cab ride from Portola to Keddie! List price $29.95, 80 minutes. Passenger trains are seen led with E-3’s and E-8’s. Joint power from CB&Q is also captured on the Zephyr Rocket. Pentrex traveled to Donner Pass in the winter of 2009-2010, spending several weeks to capture the revitalized action that can now be found on the Roseville Subdivision. The Union Pacific had just finished a 12-month project to increase the clearances in 15 tunnels and snow sheds on Donner Pass so that doublestack trains could again be routed over this crossing of the Sierra Nevada range. Once again the sounds of laboring diesels hauling containers by the hundreds echo off the granite walls of this historic pass. At last you can see those massive doublestacks slugging their way over the crest of the jaw-dropping 7,000-foot summit. List price $29.95, 120 minutes. SKU: DSTACKSDVD. Posted 5-11-10.

Then Bob treats us to the DM&IR’s diesel operations from 1972 to 1986.  SD-9’s and SD-18’s were common along with Alco C-630’s and newly acquired SD-38 dash 2’s.  Some non-ore action is seen around the Duluth area including the Duluth, Winnipeg and Pacific and Chicago & North Western.  Highlights of other ore haulers are seen including Reserve Mining and U. S. Steel. Then it is off to the upper peninsula of Michigan where we find the Milwaukee Road hauling all rail taconite trains in the Iron Mountain region.  The Lake Superior and Ishpeming is also featured with recently acquired Baltimore and Ohio Alco RSD-12’s. Finally, Bob’s camera captures the last days of the Chicago and North Western’s FM locomotives in Ore service.  Bob follows several FM led trains between Iron Mountain and Escanaba, Michigan.  You will be amazed by not only seeing, but also hearing these giant locomotives grind up the grades of the Michigan North Country. Bring back the memories of these great ore haulers in Vintage Ore Railroads! Color silent films with narration, music and natural sound (CNW FM’s) List price $29.95, 76 minutes. SKU: VOREDVD. The Canadian Pacific purchased both the Dakota Minnesota and Eastern and sister railroad, Iowa Chicago and Eastern in October of 2007. Ownership formally changed hands in 2009. Although the Iowa Chicago and Eastern had a short life, the railroad changed the face of the former Milwaukee Road lines in Illinois and Iowa. In this program, Marshall Beecher follows the IC&E’s route from Chicago to Savanna, Illinois. In our journey, witness the variety of traffic the IC&E ran on their Chicago Sub., their gateway to the Windy City. The tour will begin on the rails of the Belt Railway of Chicago, the terminus for most of IC&E’s trains, and will cover their movements on Metra/CP’s Elgin Sub back to home rails west towards Savanna, Illinois. From heavy ethanol extras to small wayfreights, you will see many sequences of IC&E trains showcasing a variety of locomotive lashups, from solid sets of ‘blues’ to mixed consists of CP Action Red and DM&E power. The sight of their all-EMD roster powering trains across the Land of Lincoln is a sight to be seen! Pre and post-CP takeover footage is featured; so don’t miss one more look at a unique fallen flag in A Tribute to the Iowa, Chicago & Eastern. List price $29.95, 113 minutes. SKU: TICE1DVD. University Junction in Minneapolis, Minnesota is one of many hot spots in the Twin Cities area. University is located in North Minneapolis just south of BNSF's Northtown and 35th Avenue Yard, and adjacent to Canadian Pacific's Shoreham Intermodal facility. In this volume, we revisit University in the summer of 2009. BNSF and Canadian Pacific are the dominant railroads through here, along with transfer trains from the Union Pacific and Canadian National. We also take you to another interesting spot near University Junction: the St. Anthony overpass that spans BNSF's 35th Avenue Yard. At this location, you will see plenty of yard and main line activity including a Canadian National transfer with an Elgin Joliet and Eastern SD-38 dash 2. University Junction was also very busy in the summer of 2009 with Minnesota's first commuter rail train. C. Vision cameras captured several of the trains testing operations before it began service in November. We also see Southern Pacific Steam Locomotive number 4449. If you enjoy "Hot Spot" rail locations, this is one you will surely admire! List price $24.95, 120 minutes. SKU: UJCT2DVD. Poster 1-3-10.

TWO-DISK SET. Along the Route of the Milwaukee Road, Volume 2 follows BNSF's historic and scenic former Milwaukee Road main line from Summit, South Dakota to Terry, Montana, with extended coverage to Miles City, Montana. Also covered in this program, the "Core Lines", from Sioux City, Iowa to Aberdeen, South Dakota, which hosts a variety of local freights, extras, and grain trains as the rails traverse the serene South Dakota countryside. We will also follow several Dakota & Iowa trains across their former Milwaukee rails with the railroad's classy SD39's, SD40-2's, and GP9's in charge. A great variety of BNSF motive power can be seen in this show, as many older locomotives were assigned to manifest and local trains that traversed the route during the production period. Further west, more unit grain and coal trains are seen in operation with newer locomotives leading the way. You'll enjoy seeing the changing landscape as the program unfolds, as we travel across the rolling Coteau Des Prairies landscape of the east, through Missouri River country near Mobridge, then along the buttes through the arid landscape of southwestern North Dakota, and finally, we'll explore the desolate rocky hills and valleys of eastern Montana. University Junction in Minneapolis, Minnesota is one of many hot spots in the Twin Cities area. University is located in north Minneapolis just south of BNSF's Northtown and 35th Avenue Yard and adjacent to Canadian Pacific's Shoreham Intermodal facility. The Great Northern and Northern Pacific once owned these tracks. Canadian Pacific's Shoreham intermodal facility and trackage westward from University are original Soo Line territory. Along with a variety of BNSF and CP trains, many transfer moves from the Union Pacific and Canadian National come through University daily. Many multiple train movements are common here. In this volume, we capture action at University in the winter months of January to March of 2009. Lots of different locomotives from EMD and GE fill the interest of every railfan on this program. BNSF, CP, SOO, NS, CSX, UP and CN power provide the colorful array of paint schemes. List price $24.94, 120 minutes. SKU: UJCTDVD. Posted 8-20-09.

Nebraska is known as a railroading hotspot. Along with the Union Pacific and BNSF, several short lines operate through the Cornhusker State. C. Vision takes a look at three of these unique short lines. Take a journey back in time to visit the Nebkota Railway in 1995 when it operated with a pair of FP-7A's. Running on the old C&NW Cowboy Line, the 2 F's look grand in their shiny silver and red paint scheme as the train hauls a string of loaded grain hoppers from Gordon to Crawford. The Nebraska Northeastern operates on ex Burlington Northern rails from O'Neill to Sioux City, Iowa. We catch a train heading east on the most scenic part of the line from Osmond to Allen, hauling popcorn and ethanol. Finally, we view the largest short line operation in Nebraska. The Nebraska Central operates 5 line segments in the east central part of the state. The NCRC will treat us to in cab operations in Norfolk, two SD-38 dash 2's on the Ord Sub, and a former MKT GP-40 operating the Stromsburg Sub. You will also see an ex-Rio Grande SD-45 working from Oconee to Genoa and an interchange train with the U.P. in Columbus. During the remarkable 147-year history of the Chicago and North Western Railroad Company from 1848 to 1995, the railroad fielded a variety of main line and branch line service throughout the Midwest and High Plains region, not to mention many locomotive types. A secondary C&NW main line from Chicago ran northwest through Wisconsin, Minnesota, and South Dakota to Pierre, Dakota Territory in 1880. This route was finally completed across South Dakota to Rapid City in 1907. In the late 1970s, many Alco units were based at Huron, South Dakota. The Alcos, suitable to the area's light rail and slow speeds, established the Pierre to Winona route as the Alco line. In this DVD, photographer Fred Crissey follows the Alco Line between Winona, Minnesota and Pierre, South Dakota, from 1977 to 1981. Also included are the Plainview, Minnesota and Aberdeen to Huron, South Dakota branch lines. This program features awesome ALCO locomotives that include RS2, RSD4, RSD5, RS32, and C425 models along with EMD SD-7R and SD-9's. The Soo Line Railroad was a classic Midwest class one that operated from Portal, North Dakota to Sault Saint Marie, Michigan, along with many branch lines throughout its system. This railroad sported many different types of locomotives with several different lettering schemes. Photographer Fred Crissey spent time documenting movements on the Soo Line in the late 1970's. The segments Fred captured include the Minneapolis, Minnesota to Owen, Wisconsin line, continuing eastward to Byron Hill. Portions of the original Soo main line from Minneapolis east to Prentice, Wisconsin including the line from Dresser to Superior are featured. You also get a chance to view operations between Medford and Prentice, Wisconsin. Fred also travels to central Minnesota to follow the Paynesville Sub that runs from Minneapolis to Glenwood. The show concludes with scenes of two GP-9's on a train through Fullerton, North Dakota. You will be amazed when watching Soo Line GP-9's, SD-40's, GP-40's, GP-38 dash 2's and even F-7's! In 2001, LTV Mining’s plant site and dock shut down operations in the arrowhead of Minnesota. In the summer of 2008, Cliffs Erie revived the line for one last time. They brought back the famous set of F-9's locomotives to move taconite fines from the former LTV dock at Taconite Harbor to the Hoyt Lakes mine site for transloading onto trains for the Severstal Steel plant in Baltimore, Maryland. Only a handful of these trains were operated and C. Vision was granted special access to ride in the cab between Taconite Harbor and Tunnel Siding! Not only will you get a chance to view the scenic beauty of northern Minnesota from these 1956 built locomotives, but they also captured several trackside views from Taconite Harbor to Hoyt Lakes, including shots of the very last train that ran on October 28, 2008. The sound of this A-B-B-B-A set of F-9’s grinding up the grade out of the Lake Superior dock will amaze any rail enthusiast! You even get to view the train going through the long tunnel from the cab! You won't want to miss this exciting show, as you won’t find a set of 5 F-9’s in freight service in the United States ever again! If you love F-Units, this video is a must for your collection!
